One of the mitzvot of the holiday of Purim - is for each person to donate to at least 2 L'evyonim according to their ability.
It is customary to give a sum of money that will allow a poor person to purchase a respectable portion of food and eat it for a week. This is the way to honorably fulfill the mitzvah.
