Charity on the eve of Yom Kippur

There is a great significance to the mitzvah of charity. Among what is said about this great Mitzvah, it is brought down from our sages that "Charity has the power to save oneself even from death", it is also written: "One’s sin can be redeemed by charity." Therefore, charity is multiplied on the eve of Yom Kippur.

Just before Yom Kippur - the day of Judgment, when we are thinking of all the right and the wrong that we have done over the last year, it is an auspicious time to add in the special mitzvah of charity. Fore it’s a mitzvah between a person and his or her fellow man and woman in need, it’s the Mitzvah of kindness.

The Great Baal Shem-Tov said: "From the noise of the coins in the charity boxes, the negativity which counters holiness is chased away”
